Need a local source/resource for an intriguing interview and story?

* Local Magician Eddy Wade owns the area's most extensive collection of Harry Houdini books and memorabilia, as well as a library of 3,500 books on magic.

* Wade will be performing throughout the area during National Magic Week and can speak extensively about Houdini, magic, and Halloween safety.

Eddy Wade began learning magic at the age of seven while growing up in Union, S.C. and is now a full-time professional magician.
To mark the 60th anniversary of Houdini's death, on October 31, 1986, Wade was suspended upside down in a straitjacket from a crane in uptown Charlotte. He freed himself from the straitjacket in just less than two minutes. He has performed for three U. S. Presidents and appeared in movies and on television. Wade is the local representative for David Copperfield's Project Magic. Wade was voted `Best of Charlotte' for five years.

For more than forty years the Society of American Magicians has been recognizing the anniversary of the death of Harry Houdini with a special "MAGIC WEEK" throughout the United States and Canada. Houdini, a past President of the Society, died at 1:26 p.m. on October 31, 1926. He had been president during the previous nine years and was the Society's most famous member.

The roots of National Magic Week go back over 70 years. Before there was a National Magic Week there was a National Magic Day. It began with a "Houdini Day" in the summer of 1927, less than one year from the death of Harry Houdini.

The Society of American Magicians adopted the idea of National Magic Week as a way of promoting the Art of Magic by performing shows at orphanages, hospitals and nursing homes for those who would have difficulty getting to a theater to see a live performance
